The Bloom Box fuel cell system is a much better, or at least more reliable, alternative to solar power as a green energy source.a Bloom Box for the residential market could be out in 5 to 10 years for under $3,000. That’s a big improvement from the $800,000 box of today, but only time will tell if Sridhar is being overly optimistic. And in the coming years, big name competitors will probably catch up to Bloom with cost efficient boxes of their own.

Bloom Box reportedly proved twice as efficient as traditional power sources and produced 60% fewer emissions.According to the Guardian, Sridhar’s work draws on his research on generating oxygen for Nasa’s missions to Mars. Oxygen is drawn into one side of the cell, while a fuel, such as a natural gas or bio-fuel, is drawn into the other side. The two combine within the cell and produce a chemical reaction that creates energy without any burning or combustion.

They have just been too expensive to be viable until now, and Bloom still has to prove that its box can produce energy at a cheaper rate than other power sources. The box also produces carbon dioxide as a byproduct a potential downside depending on how much it generates.

BUKIT MERTAJAM: It was a short-lived joy for a couple who found a baby girl abandoned outside their house in Bukit Minyak near here.

The couple, who has been childless after 10 years of marriage, thought that it was a gift from God.

They kept the baby for 36 hours in their house but later handed her over the police following advice from neighbours.

Central Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Azman Abd Lah said the baby believed to be a week-old was wrapped in a napkin and left on a table outside the house of a 38-year-old factory worker on Sunday.

The factory worker saw the baby after he returned home at 11pm after prayers at a nearby mosque.

The couple wanted to adopt the baby as they have no children.

But their neighbours caution them that it was an offence to keep the baby, he told a press conference here yesterday.

ACP Azman said the couple surrendered the baby to the district police headquarters at Bandar Perda here at about 11am yesterday.

The baby weighing 1.4kg was sent to the Bukit Mertajam Hospital. She is in good health, he said.

He said the police were trying to trace the babys parents.

When Lindsay Lohan went to jail, Michael Lohan mourned. Not just because his daughter was being incarcerated – following in his not very great footsteps – but also because it dipped his media exposure precariously low. Sure, at first he could give a billion statements to the press, but now that Lindsay’s been cooling her heels for about a week, no one cares what crazy Michael has to say. But would we care about what he had to sing ? No, unfortunately this little diddy “From Father to Daughter” is not actually being by the Lohan patriarch, but he did write it himself, so that counts for something. Like say, 10 years in prison for these lyrics about how she is his little girl and how even though she turns away, listening to all the lies, his love for her will never die… Post from: Crushable Video: Michael Lohan’s Song Should Land Him In A Jail Cell Next to Lindsay

WASHINGTON
- A radio station is reporting a former top Russian spy who defected to the United States in 2000 has died.

Washington’s WTOP-FM Radio reported Friday that Sergei Tretyakov died in June. His widow, Helen Tretyakov, tells WTOP he died of natural causes.

Pete Earley, who wrote a book about Tretyakov, also announced the death on his blog. He says Tretyakov’s widow asked friends not to reveal his death until an autopsy was completed. The widow could not immediately be reached.

A Social Security death record showed a Sergei Tretyakov died June 13 at age 53. The record did not provide a location.

Tretyakov was Russia’s deputy head of intelligence at the United Nations in New York from 1995 to 2000, when he defected to the U.S. with his wife and daughter.

News of the death comes after an unusual spy swap between Russia and the United States.
