1964 EPIPHONE SORRENTO HOLLOW BODY– ALL ORIGINAL! A TRUE UNDER THE BED CLASSIC – NOT PLAYED IN 35+ YEARS RECENTLY SERVICED AND IN EXCELLENT SHAPE! Here is another one of those pleasures of sharing gear with you here. This is an all original 1964 Epiphone Sorrento (serial # 170887) that is in superb shape and very little play on it as it has been “under the bed” since soon after its purchase in the 60’s. The Sorrento is Epi’s version of Gibson’s ES-125tc or ES-125tdc; a thinline, hollow body with wonderful acoustics and easy playability. Features on the Sorrento include a single pointed cutaway maple top and body which is fully bound with a perfectly aged crème hue to it, an unbound tortoise pickguard with the classic slashed C logo, and original mini-humbuckers that sound unreal. A 24 3/4″ scale is set with a tune-a-matic bridge and a trapeze tailpiece. The mahogany neck and unbound rosewood fretboard feature super cool oval fingerboard inlays and the standard metal peghead logo with a 1 11/16” width nut. The body is 16 1/4″ wide and only 1 ¾” wide. Now that you know the guitar, here is the history. This guitar was originally purchased in the mid-60’s by a local resident who was a home player. He purchased this guitar and an Epiphone Pathfinder amp. Life started happening and the guitar was eventually put away rarely played again after only a couple of years of use. When this player passed away, the guitar and amp were passed on to a family member who did not remember the guitar and assumed it was an acoustic guitar of no interest. A little over a year ago on a family clean out, the case was opened and a discovery was found. It was determined that though extremely clean, the neck needed work as age, weather conditions, and lack of play caused a bit of a neck twist. The guitar was fully and accurately repaired by one of the best luthiers in New England; with a super straight neck and proper neck set in the body. Many of these guitars need this same work at this point in time, so here is yours already finished. Frets are original and show very little wear as it just wasn’t played often; as does the bridge and nut. This guitar plays and sounds wonderful. This Epiphone Sorrento Semi-Hollow is used and comes to you in excellent shape for its age. There are no dings or issues on this guitar that break the finish. The finish is perfectly aged with checking on the body and neck; but that tasteful cool checking, not deep grooves. As mentioned above, the neck was recently worked on as well as a general service of the guitar. All controls are intact and there are no electronic issues. It will be difficult to find another one of these this clean. You will receive this item well packed in a 60’s Gretsch case that one can assume was all that was available at time of original purchase as it is period correct. I was at hand running around getting video of Jay-Z last night unveiling one of the pages of his upcoming Decoded book, where he did so.
