On this occasion he switched it up though, facing the crowd and feigning disinterestwhile Sonnen was the one left staring at the side of his face. It was a humorous moment and a definite ‘one-up’ for Silva who’s often had to play second fiddle to the challenger during the pre-fight hype.
Thiago Alves can never separate himself from the weigh-in drama storyline. The stocky Brazilian is massive for the 170-pound class and it’s always an adventure in the days leading up the weigh-in. This week was no different.
Alves was reportedly 190 pounds on Wednesday morning. Today, sounded bright with reports that he was 177 in the morning. But it didn’t work out, even with two weigh-in attempts. Alves missed the mark, had to forfeit 20 percent of his purse and may have cost himself the title shot promised to the winner of his fight against Jon Fitch.
